I encountered a fair few problems as i figured i give dreamhost's shared hosting facilities a go.
One of the problems was installing rails 3 itself.
Read around google and used the command below:
"gem install rails --no-rdoc --no-ri"
Worked as expected :) Installation successful.
Successfully installed rails-3.0.9
1 gem installed
